In May 2001, a group of cardiologists and their guests visited Cuba under the auspices of the People to People Ambassador Program.
The People to People organization was founded by President Dwight Eisenhower following World War II, in the hope that if private citizens could reach out
in friendship to people in other nations, they could make a significant contribution to world peace.
Our group members came from all over the United States, plus one delegate from Brazil. Several of us spoke some Spanish, although the majority did not.
We spent a wonderful week, combining professional meetings with cultural visitation. While we stayed mainly in Havana, we also spent time in Santa Clara and Varadero.
We made friends with each other, and came away with the utmost respect for the Cuban physicians, who do so much with so little. Their resourcefulness is admirable.
So we dedicate this site to them, that they may one day have the equipment that they need to care for their patients, in the beautiful country named Cuba.
